My first kydex-leather combo sheath made this year. Another sheath made for a knife made by a great polish knifemaker Mariusz "TLIM" PrzybyĆowski. This time it is a bushcraft knife with toxicated black G10 scales so black screws were used for sheath to complete the tactical look. I also used black G10 for firestarter handle. Leather was finished with Fiebing's Professional Oil Dye, SNO SEAL and Gum Tragacanth for edges, glued with EcoWeld cement.

Survival Kits Project (Part 3) My first pouch for a survival tin
My first pouch for a survival tin. Made with 2.5mm thick veg tanned leather. I have used a swing bag clasp from Tandy as a fastener. I've read that it is the best solution for such a pouch and actually it works better than I expected. Very practical in use. Pouch was dyed with Fiebing's Pro Oil Dye, and is finished with SNO Seal. There is enough room for a tin and for example 83mm Victorinox SAK or a small flashlight.

Duster Survival Set
Another survival set is ready! With one of the biggest an toughest knives I made in a years. I have used a new steel for this one - tool steel with polish code NZ3. This type of steel is often use to make cutting edge for axes and with hardness of about 56 HRC will not be easy to break. Of course I could not stop myself do do some tests and now I can't wait to make more projects with it. It is tough but unfortunatelly it will rust as easy as any other carbon steel blade.
This time for a sharpener I have not used Fallkniven DC3 but a more compact "DiaSam" two sided diamond sharpener with 600/1500 which I cut to the size I wanted to have. Cutting and grinding that diamond coated steel occured to be a very difficult task but now I have my first customized sharpener ever! As always I made my own handle for a fire starter rod.

Blade thickness: 6 mm
Blade length: 15.5 cm
Overall length: 27,8 cm
Handle material: green canvas micarta
Leather sheath
Two side diamond sharpener
Micarta firestarter
Another time the knife in a set is 'just' a very simple tool. It was a sheath that took me a lot of time to finish. I decided to add an additional pouch for firestarter, sharpener and some other small stuff like waterproof matches, fishing line, safety pins etc. Also the sheath is designed for vertical and horizontal carry. With 4mm leather and double stitch I belive it is as tough as the knife :)
Edit:
After making those photos above I decided to heatwax the leather to make sure that it will be 100% waterproof. I have used a natural bee wax so it got darker and now looks like this.
And some epic oldstyle western music ;)

Survival Kits Project (Part 1) The beginning
I am starting a new project on the blog. I have thought about making my own survival kit even before I made my first knife and it was about 10 years ago. A couple of months ago I finally started to make it. Unfortunately I had so many ideas and could not choose one. That is why there will be for sure at least 4 groups of products:
- survival keychain with cable wire ring (perfect for a EDC)
- small survival tin in a pouch to be attached to a sheath of a knife or a belt
- medium survival tin in a pouch to be attached to the bel(or a very big knife ;))
- outdoor kitchen set with a Victorinox knife and kydex/leather sheath
In my survival kits almost all the gear will be custom made or
customized so there will be not only knifemaking work but also a lot of
of leather work, kydex work, and testing the gear and equipment.
Today I will show you some stuff I manage to gather so far and these will be fire starters, whistles, keychain rings and a couple of Victorinox knives for outdoor kitchen sets.
Today I will show you some stuff I manage to gather so far and these will be fire starters, whistles, keychain rings and a couple of Victorinox knives for outdoor kitchen sets.
Fire starters is in my opinion one of the most important part of the set. It is far way better than matches or a lighter. I have collected fire starters in different shape and sizes. I will be cutting them to appropriate size, drill holes, make handles etc.

Using cable wire rings is the best way to attach you geard to be wear as a keychain. These are usually made of stainless steel so rusting is not a problem. I am wearing a keychain like this every day. It is almost impossible to break it and what is more important, adding new gear or deattaching the old one is very easy and handy. I am planning to use those as a frame for my survival keychains.
Some colorful stuff in the end. These Victorinox knives are a true legend in my country. This model is called in Poland with a nickname "Pikutek". I have no idea if they are also popular in other countries. They are considered to be the most economical and practical small kitchen blades on the market. Light, portable and perfect for an outdoor kitchen because the blade is long enough to perform almost every kitchen task and stays sharp very long. I always have at least 2 pieces of this knife in my kitchen. For this knives I will make colorful kydex-leather sheats and of course holes in the handle for a paracord wrap.
Next time I will show some small and medium size tins I found, perfect for use in a survival kit.

Orange Survival Set (Part 5) End of the story...
I have finally finish the set(and the post). I am pretty happy with it because I manage to make it almost as compact as I planned. For the second time I made a fire starter with a screwdriver so no other tools are needed to put together the sheats and leather (or separate them if needed). I have to say that I really like the kydex-leather combination and for sure there will be more sheats like this. Below some technical data.
Big BladeSteel: D2
Blade thickness: 5 mm
Blade length: 13 cm
Overall length: 26 cm
Handle material: orange G10
Small Blade
Steel: N690
Blade thickness: 2,5 mm
Blade length: 6 cm
Overall length: 15,3 cm
Leather-Kydex sheath
Fallkniven DC3 sharpener
Orange G10 firestarter
In my opinion the sheath is the most interesting part. IIt was made modular so all the parts can be combined together or be carry as separate items. For example firestarter and sharpener can be attached both to small kydex sheath or the big one. Also small blade can be carry as neck knife with paracord loop.
Finally a short movie
